Insurance problem resolution

Are you experiencing a problem with your Insurance company?
Most of the time Insurance companies return premium and pay claims promptly and fairly. once in a while something goes wrong and you may need assistance. Usually the best source of resolving your issue is to contact your agent and let them intervene on your behalf.
If you do not have an agent and deal direct, you can attempt to contact the company on their phone and try to resolve the issue.
If this doesn't work, you can call the department of financial services consumer "hotline" at 1-877-693-5236.
This number can also be used to resolve agent/consumer disputes or to report fraud or abuse.
Finally, if you have your insurance elsewhere and just want to bounce your issue off of 'your friend in the business', call me personally at 352-686-0612 and I will be glad to talk to you and suggest resolution avenues.

Florida Insurance Commissioner McCarty to Resign After 12 Years in Job

This was the recent headline of Florida Insurance news. Insurance commissioner Kevin McCarty has resigned citing the opportunity to pursue other jobs. Quoting Mr. Mccarthy:

“I am looking forward to exploring new opportunities that will allow me to use the skills, knowledge and expertise I’ve gained as Insurance Commissioner. In the meantime, I will continue my service and provide whatever assistance is desired to facilitate a smooth transition,”

McCarthy's tenure as the state's lead Insurance regulator has not always been perceived by the Insurance Industry as "insurance company friendly". while many consumers would argue that this is in their best interest, there is always the possibility that some companies that have left Florida may be attracted back if his replacement is perceived to be friendly to their needs and desires. This could potentially be a good result in a State that suffers from a poor competitive environment and the high rates that result.

Mr. McCarthy's job was not an easy one. Florida continues to be a highly volatile place for Insurance companies who are constantly dealing with storms and sinkhole losses, high exposures to catastrophic loss and angry investors. On the other side are consumers who are left dealing with a fickle insurance industry that is perceived as raising rates unfairly and arbitrarily and cancelling policies for no reason. Hopefully the next commissioner can help improve the relationship between consumers, agents and companies.

The staff of Bauknight Insurance wishes Mr. McCarthy much success in the future and thanks him for his service to the Insurance Industry.

What are the 2016 safest cars according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety?

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) every year publishes a list of the safest cars in each category based on the following critera:
To qualify for 2016 TOP SAFETY PICK, a vehicle must earn good ratings in five crashworthiness tests — small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints — as well as a basic rating for front crash prevention.
To qualify for 2016 TOP SAFETY PICK+, a vehicle must earn good ratings in the five crashworthiness tests and an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention.
Vehicles with optional front crash prevention qualify for either award only when equipped with the technology.
Models that earn TOP SAFETY PICK+ or TOP SAFETY PICK are the best vehicle choices for safety within size categories. Size and weight influence occupant protection in serious crashes. Larger, heavier vehicles generally afford more protection than smaller, lighter ones. Thus, a small car that's a TOP SAFETY PICK+ or TOP SAFETY PICK doesn't necessarily afford more protection than a bigger car that doesn't earn the award.

CITIZENS CONTINUES TO SHED POLICYHOLDERS

CITIZENS CONTINUES TO SHED POLICYHOLDERS
Through September of 205, Citizens had approved over 1 million take out policies, and actually 172,000 had been removed by the "take out" process. This brought the number to over 1,000,000 million policies removed from citizens and placed back into the private market in the last four years.
Citizens Property Insurance was formed when the Insurance market in Florida effectively collapsed with the goal of providing insurance for those that could not obtain property insurance through the private market. Since no major companies were willing to take the risk, small private Florida-based carriers were formed and these companies have assumed the risk.
These companies are typically not as well funded, have not been around long, and also typically have small claims dept that function by using independent adjusters. However, on the positive, most of them have reinsurance and a philosophy of "spreading the risk". That is, they spread their policyholders throughout Florida using computer models to avoid having too any policies in any one area. The theory behind this is to avoid having to many policyholders in any one area hit by disaster.
On Thursday, November 5, the Florida Dept of Insurance made the following announcement for 2016:
The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (Office) has approved the removal of up to 127,266 personal residential policies and 3,268 commercial residential/non-residential polices from Citizens Property Insurance Corporation (Citizens). Today’s announcement represents the first take-out for 2016 and the following five companies have been approved to participate:
· Anchor Property & Casualty Insurance Company – approved to remove up to 20,000 personal residential policies (16,030 Personal Lines Account and 3,970 Coastal Account)
· Heritage Property & Casualty Insurance Company – approved to remove up to 55,000 personal residential policies (35,000 Personal Lines Account and 20,000 Coastal Account) and up to 1,500 commercial residential policies (1,300 Commercial Lines Account and 200 Coastal Account)
· Safepoint Insurance Company – approved to remove up to 20,000 personal residential policies (12,000 Personal Lines Account and 8,000 Coastal Account)
· Southern Oak Insurance Company – approved to remove up to 15,000 personal residential policies (10,000 Personal Lines Account and 5,000 Coastal Account)
· Weston Insurance Company – approved to remove up to 17,266 personal residential policies (all Coastal Account), up to 719 commercial residential policies (Commercial Lines Account) and up to 1,049 commercial non-residential policies (Commercial Lines Account)
If you are a policyholder in Pasco or Hernando county and receive a take out letter, you need to seek advice from a licensed agent familiar with the unique problems presented by being a property owner in this area. Call us and we will ask you a series of questions and determine what is in your best interest.
